Polo G Samples Tupac on ‘Wishing for a Hero’

Polo G released his sophomore album THE GOAT today.

The 16-track album features appearances from Lil Baby, NLE Choppa, Stunna 4 Vegas, Mustard, and the late Juice WRLD. The 21-year-old Chicago rapper also flips a Tupac classic on the album closer “Wishing for a Hero” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid.

Over a sample Pac’s 1998 hit “Changes,” Polo reflects on overcoming his own struggles. “I’m from where we unheard and we can’t speak / We go to school, they try to tell us what we can’t be,” he raps. “Prit with a billion-dollar mind like I’m JAY-Z / They killed Martin for dreamin’ and now I can’t sleep.”

He also borrows from Tupac’s original lyrics. “Wish we could go back to them days when we played as kids / A lot shit changed, that’s just the way it is.”

The piano-driven track switches up midway as BJ delivers a powerful vocal performance with a choir. It ends with Polo’s younger sister proclaiming his GOAT status. “You finally made it big brother, you’re the GOAT,” she says.
