Na’Kia Crawford, 18-Year-Old Black Woman, Killed At A Red Light


Na’Kia Crawford, an 18-year-old Black woman, was fatally shot at a red light while in the car with her grandmother.

Na’Kia Crawford was a recent high school graduate. She was just eighteen-years-old, driving around with her grandmother in Akron, Ohio, when they stopped at a red light. That’s when Na’Kia’s life was cut short after she was fatally shot.

Police responded to shooting reports at 1:25 PM on Saturday after Na’Kia Crawford was shot by an unidentified white man while waiting at a traffic light in her car. When they arrived at the crime scene, the young woman was found with multiple gunshot wounds. She died from her injuries at the Akron City Hospital today.

Na’Kia’s grandmother was also in the car but she was reportedly not injured.

So far, there have been no arrests made in connection to the killing Na’Kia Crawford. The suspect is said to be a white male driving a black Mustang with tinted windows.

“Na’kia Crawford was a young woman who deserved a life and a future,” said the Mayor Akron, Dan Horrigan. “She was a recent high school graduate, preparing to start the next chapter her story at Central State University. Her senseless murder is devastating, not only to her family and friends, but to the entire Akron community. I spoke with Na’kia’s father and uncle, who I know, early this morning, and my heart truly goes out to all Na’kia’s loved ones in this time incredible grief and pain. … I feel that it is essential to say clearly and loudly: Black lives matter. Na’kia Crawford’s life mattered.”
