Hot f the release his new album High Off Life, Future phoned into Zane Lowe on Apple Music to discuss his latest project.
During the hour-long interview, the Freebandz leader opened up about his constant evolution and grind, creating classics, and his collaborations with Travis Scott and Meek Mill.
He also spoke about his influence on today’s artists, while giving props to Young Thug (“That’s my twin”), Lil Uzi Vert, and the late Juice WRLD.
And he wasn’t shy to proclaim his own greatness. “In 2080 they gonna be talking about me like I just dropped,” said Future. “It’s bigger than what they can see right now…I’m a lifestyle.”
Plus, the “Life Is Good” rapper revealed that he’s working on a book and a film for Netflix. “Right now I got my book I’m working on, my movie I’m working on, they’re going to be able to find on Netflix,” he said.

On his evolution: “You change when it’s time to change. You change when it’s… Beneficial for me at this point, because it was benefiting me to be the person that I was and be the person that I am and to be the person that everyone loved already. So if I change, it’s got to be changing for benefit. It’s got to be beneficial for me to change… You got to gradually do it. You got to become that person and be able to live that, live your truth.”
On creating timeless music: “When it’s a classic, people are going to be able to identify it and they go back through time and they’re going to be able to listen to it 20 years from now and be like, that’s a great body music and be able to accept it on their own time. That’s why it’s a classic. In due time, it’ll be something special to everyone, but it just was bad timing for us, but it was great music. And I don’t get mad at that because I’m a creative… I continue to create.”
On opening doors for artists including Young Thug and Lil Uzi Vert: “Of course that’s my twin Young Thug]. It’s like, it’s me then there’s him, it’s me and there’s him, then there’s him and it’s me. What else? That’s Baby Pluto, course…. That’s family. We want everybody to be super rich, we want everybody to take this shit to the next level. I wanted to start getting paid a certain amount for the shows, so the next person behind me doing the same kind music or better music, they’d be able to get paid way more. You are from the streets, you are from the trenches, you need to get paid this amount money. This is what we get paid now. We get paid like pop stars.”
On finding the formula: “It wasn’t quick for me, but everybody that comes behind me, it’s going to happen quick because, I found the glitch to the matrix, I found the recipe. Once you found the recipe, then it’s like trying to find a cure for Corona? I found the cure to making this shit go pop. Trust. We’re going pop, whatever you’re doing it’s going to pop. You can be yourself and it’s going to pop. You can cross over too. You can get the same money as a pop star by being yourself. You don’t need to be corny. You just be yourself and you get pop star money.”
On working with Travis Scott on ‘Solitaires’: “That’s a good collaboration. It’s just about being expensive, just having expensive taste. Artistically, Travis, he’s on another level when it comes to being artistic and everything. Like, his whole vision, being engaged, the artwork and just the core craft. He knows what he’s doing.”
On Juice WRLD: “It was like working with a different breed. It’s something different. Juice one them, like I say, he had the answers for it. They had an answer for this. It was special. I know it was a special moment… Just working with him. He’s a great kid, a special kid.”
On his Meek Mill collaboration ‘100 Shooters’: “That one when we first collabed, at the time when I put it out, I just thought it was just a fresh collab for me and Meek to do something. Man, I want to work more with Meek. And we always working in the studio, always around each other. So there’s nothing to do.”
On his prolific output and his kids: “I’m just a studio junkie. It’s just what I am, I don’t love nothing else but making music. Jackson 5. Some Jackson 5 shit. Marley. Marley. More like Bob. Man, 1000%. All my kids, bosses, because I’m a boss. So one thing about that, you just create bosses. You got DNA. And their DNA, there’s boss in their DNA. So it’s a problem.”
