Several Injured After Stampede at Nipsey Hussle Vigil

A peaceful vigil for Nipsey Hussle turned to chaos.

A day after the Crenshaw rapper was gunned down outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles, hundreds people gathered Monday night to mourn his loss and pay their respects. At some point during the memorial, an incident occurred and multiple people were trampled.

At least one person with a stab wound was transported to a local hospital and others were hurt after the stampede. Los Angeles Police Dept. spokesman Josh Rubenstein told the Los Angeles Times that no shots were fired despite reports.

“We do have injured in the chaos and are attempting to restore order,” tweeted the LAPD.

Everyone in the area was asked to leave immediately. Fans brought candles, flowers, balloons, and other items to pay their respects to the slain rapper. After the stampede, candles were crushed as people fled the scene.

“We understand the community is mourning and we feel your loss,” tweeted the LAPD. “We are asking for everyone to follow the ficers directions and disperse from the immediate area.”

Nipsey was shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store on Crenshaw Blvd. on Sunday afternoon. According to the Los Angeles County Department Medical Examiner-Coroner, an autopsy determined that the 33-year-old rapper was shot in the head and torso. His death has been ruled a homicide.
