The late producer’s death hit Questlove hard.
Questlove recently sat down with A.S.C.A.P.’s I Create Music Expo this past Friday to discuss various things. While the Hollywood California-based talk involved a series dropped gems and insightful content, the Roots drummer opened up about a dark period his life. Questlove admitted to having undergone a musical hiatus following the death his close friend and legendary producer J Dilla. He precisely states: “When he passed away that really hit me super hard. I stopped making music. Unless it was a Roots album, I pretty much had stopped working and collaborating with other people.”

Moreover, in remembering his dear friend, Questlove chimed in on J Dilla’s production genius and natural ability for sound. “the music god that music gods and music experts and music lovers worship,” praised Quest. Indeed, J Dilla was one a kind and during his lifespan generated an array memorable sounds for big names like Ghostface Killah, Janet Jackson, and Erykah Badu.
The latest project by the Detroit icon, known as Motor City, was released posthumously back in 2017. The latter featured a total 19 unreleased instrumentals drafted by J. Dilla and was personally curated by Dilla’s mother, Ma Dukes Yancey.
