The NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau has closed its investigation into a Brooklyn precinct commander who allegedly ordered to shoot 50 Cent on sight.
According to the New York Daily News, investigators determined that Brooklyn Deputy Inspector Emanuel Gonzalez made the comment, but didn’t mean it to be a threat against the rapper.
Gonzalez, the commanding ficer the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park, allegedly told his ficers to shoot the “Power” actor on sight if they saw him at an NYPD-sanctioned boxing match in the Bronx. Gonzalez claimed it was just a joke and not an actual threat, but the Internal Affairs Bureau’s Group 1, which handles police corruption cases for captains and above, launched an investigation.
At least eight cops and a supervisor confirmed that Gonzalez made the remark during a roll call in June 2018. Since IAB couldn’t prove any malice or intent behind the statement, detectives closed the case without filing any departmental or criminal charges.
An NYPD spokeswoman confirmed that the case is closed. “This allegation was unsubstantiated and closed,” said the spokeswoman.
After the case was closed, 50 reacted to the news, reposting the Daily News’ headline. “I knew they were not going to do anything about this, so I stop talking about it,” he wrote. “NYPD is hands down the toughest gang in New York. You just gotta be ready for what ever. You know the vibes.”
