It’s been nearly two years since DRAM released his debut album, but the Virginia rapper-singer returns with his new single, “The Lay Down.”
The laid-back groove features soulful crooning from DRAM, who duets with H.E.R. on the watt-produced track, which includes an interpolation Roberta Flack’s “Tonight I Celebrate My Love.”
DRAM plans to showcase more his “R&B and soul roots” on his second album, the follow-up to 2017’s Big Baby DRAM.
“No one sings anymore. Ain’t no true SANGERS out there! Nobody’s taking it to the stage. No one’s pouring their heart out, but that pattern stops here!” he told fans. “Over the last 2 years, I’ve been working on my sophomore album while simultaneously going through the ups and downs life in general. As a result this, many these experiences have been heavily reflected in my work moving forward. As I mature, so does my sound.”

He added, “I’ve always considered myself more a singer-songwriter so this time around, I’m really owning my R&B and soul roots. So, as you can tell, I’m excited about introducing you to the new Big Baby DRAM chapter.”
H.E.R., who released her “21” freestyle last month, will co-headline a one-night-only show with Ms. Lauryn Hill at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 16.
