The six-game ban marks the third time Waiters has been suspended this season. In addition to the aforementioned THC incident, Waiters was also suspended for the team’s season opener for conduct detrimental to the team, although the specific were never revealed. According to ESPN, those previous suspensions cost Waiters $917,931 in salary. His latest will cost him another $500,690, bringing the total to over $1.4 million f his $12.1 million salary.

The Heat (18-6) signed Waiters to a four-year, $52 million extension in July 2017, and he has averaged 12.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in his 74 appearances since then. The first game in which he will be eligible to play is December 27 against the Indiana Pacers.
