Lil Nas X’s Billboard Hot 100 Chart Dominance Comes To An End

Lil Nas X’s record-setting streak on the Billboard Hot 100 has come to a conclusion. Billie Eilish’s song “Bad Guy” claimed the top spot on this week’s chart, ending the popular “Old Town Road” single’s 19-week run at No. 1.

“Old Town Road” fell to No. 3 on the Hot 100 but maintained its No. 1 position on some other charts. The single is still atop the Streaming Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for its 20th consecutive week.

Lil Nas X publicly congratulated Eilish Twitter.

“congratulations to billie eilish!!” he wrote. “u deserve this!!”

With its streak coming to an end, “Old Town Road” ficially set the record for longest-running No. 1 song on the Hot 100 at 19 weeks.

The previous high mark was 17 weeks, which was originally achieved by Mariah Carey’s Boyz II Men-assisted track “One Sweet Day.” Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s collaboration “Despacito” later tied the old record, which was broken this year by Lil Nas X.

Eilish spent the past nine weeks at No. 2 before surpassing Lil Nas X. She is the first artist born in the 2000s to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100.
