Lil Nas X Officially Shatters Drake’s One-Week Streaming Record

You can’t keep a good cowboy down.

Lil Nas X’s viral hit “Old Town Road” became something like a phenomenon. Spurred on by a little bit Billboard controversy, a Cyrus family member once again dipping a toe in the hip-hop pool,  and a delightful commitment to the cowboy motif, Lil Nas X’s breakout single found itself enjoying a genuine moment in the sun. Now, the full extent its success has been revealed, and the results are nothing short impressive. In fact, “Old Town Road” has ficially established itself a streaming juggernaut, breaking a record previously held by Drake

Billboard has ficially confirmed that Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” has surpassed the single-week totals Drake’s “In My Feelings” on Billboard’s U.S. Streaming Songs charts. Of course, it should be noted that both the remix and the original count toward the numbers, which might leave some raised eyebrows; after all, both versions are technically different, are they not? Still, Lil Nas X’s accomplishment should not be undersold. “Old Town Road” secured 143 million U.S. streams in a single week release, while “In My Feelings” previously sat atop the mountain with 116.2 million during the height the Shiggy-induced craze.

While some might feel the song is somewhat a parody, there’s clearly something here. Perhaps Lil Nas oughta explore the country slash meme rap direction further. The untapped market potential is boundless.
