With rumors an fseason exit strategy taking center stage leading up to Game 6, Kevin Durant faced a whole lot pressure to stay focused, especially with a begrudged Patrick Beverley nipping at his heels. A fair number highly-regarded pundits believe the Golden State Warriors have lost their air invincibility, for some reason or another.
As much as it pains me to admit it, the pundits are absolutely right. The 2019 Golden State Warriors aren’t the gel-tight outfit they were in previous campaigns. But on this occasion, a dominant 129-110 series-deciding Game 6, teamwork didn’t factor in the final result. KD simply willed his team to a W with what Warriors’ coach Steve Kerr called “one the great performances” he’d ever witnessed in over 30-years as an NBA pressional.
“It was one the great performances I’ve ever seen in my life,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Durant’s 50-point performance. “I’ve seen some good ones, been around some decent players. He just carried us these last couple games the series. He’s the ultimate weapon because there’s no defense for Kevin. No matter what anybody does, he can get a good shot. And he knew we needed him badly, and he just took over the game in the first half and set a great tone.”
