Just in time for the release the Black Panther movie, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and Future drop the visuals for "King's Dead."
A standout track from the Black Panther: The Album soundtrack, the Dave Free-directed visual is one the more creative hip-hop videos the year so far. "King's Dead" kicks f with a shot K. Dot sitting high up in a palm tree while eating corn on the cob.
The visuals then switch to Kendrick, Future and Jay Rock in a hectic fice before switching back to Jay Rock in the palm tree. The video is full quick cuts and zoom-out shots the rappers, who can be seen in barber shops and atop tall buildings.
Then just as the beat changes, the visuals move to a back alley deal gone wrong, as we see Kendrick fighting on a dimly lit street. Just as the rapper is able to escape, the video switches to K. Dot rapping from the middle an intersection while cars go speeding past him.
Released on Feb. 9, Black Panther: The Album features some hip-hop's biggest names like 2 Chainz, The Weeknd and Travis Scott, as well as newcomers such as Khalid, Zacari and SOB x RBE.
Kendrick, who makes a number uncredited appearances on the album also produced the project. "The magnitude this film showcases a great marriage art and culture," he said. "I'm truly honored to contribute my knowledge producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan Coogler] and Marvel's vision."
