Kanye West Enlists Nigerian Designer As Design Director For Yeezy Gap

Ye’s new joint venture with Gap just got even better.

The new Yeezy Gap partnership was announced early Friday morning and has already received a lot attention. This partially has to do with Kayne West recruiting Nigerian-British designer Mowalola Ogunlesi to the Yeezy Gap design team.

Following the announcement the partnership, Ogunlesi confirmed on Instagram that she will serve as the design director for the project.

The designer, who goes by the mononymous name Mowalola, has an impressive and extensive design catalog. Earlier this week, Kanye, Kim, and their daughter North were seen on Instagram in the family’s Father’s Day photo wearing custom designs by Mowalola. The rapper wore a matching patent leather jacket and pants, while Kim wore a teal trench coat and brown patent leather dress. North wore a neon green and black cow-print dress, all which was designed by Mowalola.

Mowalola has previously worked with talented R&B artists like Kelela, Steve Lacy, and Solange, as well as collaborating with British rapper Skepta on his “Pure Water” video.

Kanye also confirmed the news his Twitter account in true Ye-stye, shouting out Mowalola and other Yeezy Gap personnel in all caps, adding the hashtag #WESTDAYEVER. The now highly-anticipated collaborative venture with Gap has an anticipated 2021 launch and is a 10-year deal with a choice to renew after the first five.
