Ian Holm Passes Away At Age 88

Ian Holm, well-known for his role in “Lord Of The Rings,” has passed away.

At 88 years old, Lord the Rings actor Ian Holm has passed away.

The English actor, also known for his roles in Alien and Chariots Fire, will be missed dearly. “It is with great sadness that the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age 88,” his agent confirmed to the Guardian.

Holm had been battling Parkinson’s for a number years. “He died peacefully in hospital, with his family and carer,” said his agent. “Charming, kind and ferociously talented, we will miss him hugely.”

During his time as an actor, Holm won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor for his performance in The Homecoming as well as the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting role for Chariots Fire. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Earlier this month, he expressed his disappointment at not being able to participate in a virtual Lord The Rings reunion: “I am sorry to not see you in person, I miss you all and hope your adventures have taken you to many places, I am in lockdown in my hobbit home, or holm.”

“RIP Sir Ian Holm. From the Nostromo to Middle-earth, it’s been an incredible journey,” tweeted The Lord the Rings on Prime.

Holm’s wife, Sophie de Stempel, dedicated a series pastel portraits to her husband in his last days.
