GoldLink Implies He Threw His Phone When He Saw YBN Cordae’s Grammy Nomination

Hamburg, Germany – GoldLink apparently wasn’t impressed with the 2020 Grammy Award nominations for Best Rap Album.

During a tour stop in Hamburg, Germany on Wednesday (November 27), he implied he threw his phone when he heard YBN Cordae’s name on the list nominees.

“I was on the phone or whatever,” he stated. “It was like Best Rap Album. It was Meek Mill, I was like…uh. Then there was like 21 Savage.”

He stared into the air before returning to the rant.

“Then there was Tyler, The Creator, and I was like ‘Ah,’” he continued. “And then was Revenge the Dreamers III, and I was like…uh. And then I saw this one nigga, and I threw my phone.”

Prior to the Hamburg show, GoldLink penned a lengthy post blasting the Grammy Awards.

“Honestly, its fuck Grammys til the day I die, he wrote in part. “I am no longer participating in that wild ass slave ass political ass cheating ass game any longer. The lack relevance you have just solidified today is unbelievable.”

Honestly, its fuck Grammys til the day I die. I am no longer participating in that wild ass slave ass political ass cheating ass game any longer. The lack relevance you have just solidified today is unbelievable. Tyler got one fuckin nomination in a category he didn’t even participate in knowing damn well he deserved album the year. Burna Boy deserves more, Kfee deserves more. DaBaby couldn’t “qualify” for best new artist apparently because he had “mixtapes” in the past. No nod to Solange for taking a risk pushing the boundaries when nobody else was brave enough to do so. There’s not even a category for internationally black artist at all. Wtf do you think these kids learn when you tell them there black art isn’t good enough? Or isn’t noticed at all? I’ve just gotten to a point after three years being silent on this topic, that my value is much beyond what closed door establishments have been giving us. Even how our peers are voting against us. I cannot partake.

Over the past week, GoldLink has been experiencing a healthy dose backlash for the controversial comments he made about the late Mac Miller.

In an Instagram post, he accused Miller copying his music for his 2016 album The Divine Feminine. Consequently, Anderson .Paak chided GoldLink, calling his post “disrespectful, narcissistic, jealous grossly unnecessary post.”

GoldLink addressed his remarks during the same Hamburg concert and referred to Miller as “best friend.”

The D.C. rapper has been touring the U.S. and Europe to support his second album Diaspora since August.
