Frank Vogel Named New Lakers Head Coach: Report

According to new reports, the Los Angeles Lakers have found a new head coach in Frank Vogel who will be fulfilling the position vacated by Luke Walton.

ESPN reports that the terms the contract span across three years with the salary and payout remaining under wraps for the time being. Originally, it was Tyronn Lue who seemed poised to be the next head coach the West Coast team However, Vogel was brought into the forefront the conversation when Lue and the Lakers reached an impasse. In addition, sources report that Vogel will be joined by Jason Kidd.

 

 Currently, Vogel holds a record 304-291 as a head coach. Prior to working with Orlando, he led the Pacers to back-to-back Eastern Conference final in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

“Under Vogel, the Lakers are unlikely to distinguish between a top assistant and the rest the coaches,” ESPN predicts. “One Lakers source described it as ‘the Phil Jackson model’ assembling a staff. The influence Jackson and Kurt Rambis weighs heavily in the Vogel hiring.”
