Drew Brees does not want to see anybody kneeling to protest during the 2020 NFL Season.
Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid were criticized heavily when they began kneeling while the National Anthem played before their games. Although Reid still has a job, Colin Kaepernick was essentially kicked out the league for his peaceful protesting. Players followed suit and stood up for him and for the meaning their protest, which has nothing to do with “disrespecting the flag.” Still, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is not interested in seeing or hearing about any football players taking a knee in the upcoming season.
Brees has been under fire for his comments this week, which took place as the world has been protesting against racial inequality. The all-time great said that he will not be kneeling and he doesn’t think that anybody else should either.
“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag the United States America or our country,” said Brees to Yahoo Finance. He goes on to state that, every time the National Anthem plays, he thinks his two grandfathers who fought during World War II.
He added, “And is everything right with our country right now? No, it is not. We still have a long way to go. But I think what you do by standing there and showing respect to the flag with your hand over your heart, is it shows unity. It shows that we are all in this together, we can all do better and that we are all part the solution.”
