District Attorney Files Motion for Meek Mill’s Release

Larry Krasner, the Philadelphia District Attorney, is not just backing Meek Mill’s request to be released on bail; the Philly D.A. has even filed a motion about it to the Supreme Court, according to Billboard.

Krasner explains his stance further in the motion. The D.A. “does not oppose defendant’s application to the extent he requests release on bail pending the current proceedings, but opposes all other requested relief at this time,” according to the report.

The motion follows Judge Genece Brinkley’s latest decision in the case. Earlier this week, she denied the rapper’s request to be released on bail. Now, the Maybach Music Group MC’s fate rests in the hands the Supreme Court, instead Brinkley’s.

Meek Mill’s lawyer Joe Tacopina celebrated Krasner’s position. “We are encouraged by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s steadfast stance in not opposing Meek Mill’s release on bail at the Pennsylvania Supreme Court level while the current legal proceedings continue, even in light Judge Brinkley’s vindictive and erroneous decision,” he said.

Krasner has made similar statements in the past. Last month, he said that there was a “strong likelihood” his conviction would be overturned due to the Philadelphia Police Department’s corruption scandal.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf also co-signed Krasner’s initial statements last month. “I support D.A. Larry Krasner’s position in the case Robert Williams (Meek Mill),” he tweeted. “Our criminal justice system is in need repair. That’s why my admin has made efforts to invest in programs that divert individuals from the system, improve public safety, and promote fairness. But more needs to be done.”

Recently, Meek Mill’s mother wrote a letter to Lady Justice, explaining her frustrations. “The District Attorney and Governor Wolf had the courage to say let my son out prison due to this injustice,” she wrote. “You’ve taken his innocence and abused his pride. He’s suffered loss family and freedom. No human being should know his truths and be accosted by lies and false judgment under your shelter.”
