Chance the Rapper is putting The Big Day on hold.
The Chicago rapper has postponed his North American tour until 2020. Taking to Instagram, the father two informed his fans his decision to delay the tour while he focuses on his marriage and family. Earlier this month, Chance and his wife Kirsten Bennett welcomed their second daughter Marli.
“I thought it over for the past week and I’ve decided to push back my tour,” he wrote. “This year has been one the greatest my life; Marriage, new baby, first album etc. But with it being so eventful it has also been very strenuous having to divide my time and energy between family and work.”
He shared his regrets over missing important moments when his first daughter was born. “When Kensli was born, I went on tour 2 weeks later and missed some the most important milestones in her life, but more importantly I was absent when her mother needed me the most,” he continued. “At this point as a husband and father two I realize that I can’t make that mistake again. I need to be as helpful and available as possible to my wife in these early months raising Kensli and Marli.”
An apologetic Chance thanked his fans for understanding. “I apologize because I know how many people were counting on seeing me soon, but I hope you’ll understand and forgive me in time,” he said, adding, “I love you guys AND LITERALLY CANT WAIT FOR U TO WITNESS THIS SHOW.”
The arena tour will now kick f Jan. 15 in San Diego, Calif. and make stops in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto, New York, and more, before wrapping Feb. 24 in Milwaukee, Wis. Tickets for the rescheduled dates are now available.
Tickets that were purchased for the 2019 shows will be valid for the rescheduled 2020 dates. Refunds are also available at point purchase.
Chance’s United Center show in Chicago on Sept. 28 will continue as scheduled, while the second show on Sept. 29 will be rescheduled for a later date. His festival appearances including Life Is Beautiful, iHeartRadio Music Festival, and Miami Beach Pop Festival will go on as planned.
