San Jose, CA – NBC’s upcoming documentary, Culture Hip Hop, is taking a deep dive into the Bay Area Hip Hop scene and featuring the rap stars who put it on the map and the newcomers that have helped it grow.
The one-hour documentary will include interviews with Bay Area rap pioneers, like Too $hort and E-40, as well as the younger generation they’ve inspired, such as G-Eazy, Saweetie, Kamaiyah and Nef the Pharaoh. The special will also feature interviews with Bay Area DJs Big Von and Chuy Gomez as well as Hip Hop historian Davey D.
“The Bay Area is home to a thriving Hip Hop scene, producing legendary artists who paved their own road, and emerging talent who are using their skills and creativity to express the reality life in our neighborhoods,” Stacy Owen, President and General Manager NBC Bay Area, said press release. “In Culture Hip Hop, we’re able to connect with the people behind the personas and show why hip-hop is more than just a music genre.”
The artists tackle topics from the early days their careers to their big breaks, reflecting on the milestones that launched Bay Area Hip Hop and expanded it onto the national scene.
“Nobody else from the West Coast can do it like the Bay Area,” Too $hort says in the ficial trailer.
Culture Hip Hop premieres Saturday (April 27) at 10 p.m. on NBC Bay Area.
