XXXTENTACION Breaks One-Day Spotify Streaming Record

XXXTENTACION‘s death has led to even more success for his music, specifically when it concerns streams.

According to Spotify Charts, X’s “SAD!” broke a global record on the streaming service with the most streams in a single day. The ? record received 10.4 million streams globally on Tuesday (June 19), the day after the South Florida rapper was killed in a suspected robbery.

That particular Spotify record was previously held by Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do,” which got 10.1 million streams on August 25, 2017.

News X’s accomplishment is in stark contrast to him getting delisted from Spotify-curated playlists (along with R. Kelly) when the company announced its (now-scrapped) “Hateful Conduct” policy in May.

In addition to breaking the streaming record on Tuesday, songs from X — including “Moonlight,” “Jocelyn Flores” and “Fuck Love” — held the top seven spots on Spotify’s global Top 200 chart. As writing, he currently holds the top four spots.

Outside Spotify, the controversial rapper’s music sales increased by 1,603 percent in the United States, according to Billboard. “SAD!” served as his biggest selling record on Monday (June 18), moving 6,000 copies. With only 1,000 copies “SAD!” sold on the previous day, the song saw a 1,143 percent increase in sales.

?, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in March, is expected to return to the Top 10 on the next chart.

Days prior to his death, XXXTENTACION’s “SAD!” and the PnB Rock-assisted “Changes” were both certified platinum by the RIAA.
