Eric B. and Rakim Think We're Seeing a Devolution of Rap

Eric B. and Rakim have once again made known their feelings about the current landscape the rap world, and as you could've guessed, they aren't exactly good ones. Their latest condemnation the current rap zeitgeist came in the form a couple tweets.

"You are now witnessing the devolution rap music," wrote the legendary rapper-DJ duo from their joint-Twitter account. "The death poetry and smoothness, they use this. The absence a message. The inability to create meaningful change through words and verses, but the worse is, they don’t even know they hurt this artful purpose, it’s tragic."

In a second tweet, the account indicates that there's a difference between rap and hip-hop, and that knowing that difference is essential. "You need to look real close at this previous tweet that’s reached almost 1 million people already and see what you read," reads their tweet. "It says “rap” not “hip hop.” If you don’t know the difference, you can’t make a difference. #KNOWtheLEDGE."

This isn't the first time the two historical hip-hop figures have put some incendiary tweets into the universe. Last year, the two bashed singer Eric Bellinger for titling his series Eric B for President after the classic Eric B. and Rakim song  the same name.

"This clown @EricBellinger still tryna fool listeners into thinking his music is @EricB so they download it," wrote Eric B. and Rakim on their joint Twitter account. "Maybe @EricBellinger just has never heard #EricBisPresident. Maybe it's time to make em clap to this."

Before that, Eric B. and Rakim seemingly endorsed then yet-to-be-elected-president Donald Trump, calling Hillary Clinton crooked to justify their decision. Rakim's manager shot down that statement, though, saying the MC has no connection to the Eric B and Rakim Twitter page.
