Young Thug Takes Elton John's "Rocket Man" To Another Planet

Young Thug’s remix Sir Elton John’s “Rocket Man” is finally a reality. On Monday night (August 20), a SoundCloud upload appeared on before rippling across the internet.

The idea first came up in 2016 when Thugger visited the music icon at his Atlanta, Georgia home. By that time, John had already expressed his admiration for Thug.

“I heard a Young Thug] track on Beats 1 and I loved it so much,” he said in a 2015 interview with Noisey. John was then asked about Thugger’s penchant for wild clothing — like wearing leather Gucci dresses and leopard print two-pieces.

“I love all that, it’s unexpected,” he said. “I remember when Blind Faith came out, with a nude girl and John & Yoko, you had to buy it in a black plastic bag. And you should be able to do things like that but we don’t live in that kind world anymore.”

Thug’s roughly three-minute remix comes with lines like, “I’m steady chasing like I’m never tired/I’m living scary like a hundred highs/Lil mama sexy, I got butterflies” as John’s “I’m gonna be high” hook floats in the background.

John is a known fan Hip Hop. In 2017, he waltzed into a Canadian record store asking for Tech N9ne music. He’s also helped Eminem kick his drug habit and has been his 12-step sponsor for several years.
