HARLEM, NEW YORK – The recent passing adorned Los Angeles rapper and philanthropist, Nipsey Hussle, has many still in disbelief. A plethora family, fans, and friends have continued to express their love and memories with the slain rapper daily. Nipsey’s former music manager, Steve Lobel, recently shared memorable moments with the “Dedication” rapper in an intimate interview on Young Atlas (a platform for creatives based in Harlem, New York).
In a clip from the full interview, Lobel teases his relationship with Nipsey, deeming him the “smartest” artist he’s ever worked with and even mentions the nickname “Maniac Lobel” given to him by Nipsey. Steve goes on to talk about how long it took to take Nipsey’s career to the next level and solemnly describes how beautiful Nipsey looked in his casket during his funeral that took place on April 11th.
Lobel goes on to mention how he got his start when the late Jam Master Jay took him under his wing in the early days Def Jam and Rush Management. The NYC native catapulted into legendary status working with Fat Joe, Common, 8Ball & MJG in the ’90s, and then challenging himself with the management Bizzy Bone from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Sean Kingston, and Nipsey Hussle.
In the full interview, Steve goes on to mention his part in helping revive Scott Storch’s career, staying relevant in the ever-changing music industry, and his growth from managing to now “consulting” artist such as compelling Newark, NJ rapper Tsu Surf, who also happens to be a member the Rollin’ 60s Crips.
