Spotify is expanding its partnership with Samsung for more devices and Android-specific features.

Spotify and Samsung first minted their partnership in 2018, making Spotify the default music app on Samsung devices. But now, that partnership is expanding even further with new features like group listening, seamless listening, and more. Here’s a peek at the new features in store for Spotify users with Samsung devices.

Spotify Group Session Support

The Spotify Group Session allows Spotify Premium users on Android to start listening sessions during a phone call. When a Google Meet call is started, hosts can tap the ‘three dots’ menu on their phone. There will be an option to start a listening session with up to eight friends so they can listen to music while talking.

Seamless Listening on Galaxy Watch

Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro now support seamless listening. With just a few simple voice commands, the watch can now play music, pause podcasts, or raise/lower the volume using Spotify and Google Assistant on WearOS.

Spotify Tap on Galaxy Buds

Samsung’s newest Galaxy Buds 2 Pro have a feature called Spotify Tap. The feature allows you to play your personal soundtrack instantly with a quick tap and hold. Have a few songs you’re obsessed with and want available at the touch of a button? That’s Spotify Tap.

Three Months Free Trial of Spotify Premium

Spotify is also expanding its new three-month free trial to new Samsung devices. Anyone who buys a 2022 Samsung Smart TV or Galaxy smartphone can claim three months of Spotify Premium for free. This offer is available in 85 markets around the world. It’s worth noting, though, that the offer is only available to people who have never had Spotify Premium before.

YouTube Music has gained more popularity than Google Play Music ever had, though it’s taken Google a while to get there. Spotify expanding its partnership with Samsung should come as no surprise, considering Samsung devices make up a considerable share of the Android-based smartphone market. By August 2022 estimates, Samsung devices account for 21.8% of the total smartphone market globally.
