Rihanna Slams Alabama Governor for Abortion Ban

Rihanna is speaking out against Alabama’s controversial abortion bill.

On Wednesday (May 15), the state’s governor Kay Ivey signed the Alabama Human Life Protection Act into law, prompting a response from Rihanna. The superstar singer posted a photo 25 Alabama Republican state Senators, which consist white men, and put them on blast for voting in favor the ban.

“Take a look. these are the idiots making decisions for WOMEN in America,” said Rihanna.

She also condemned Alabama’s female governor for signing the law into effect. “Governor Kay Ivey…SHAME ON YOU!!!!” she added.

The bill bans women in Alabama from having an abortion after six weeks into their pregnancy at which time many don’t even know they are pregnant. Any doctor who performs an abortion in the state will face a minimum 10 years in prison and a maximum 99 to life.

Other celebrities including Lady Gaga, Janelle Monáe, and John Legend have taken to social media to speak up for the rights women following the ban. “THIS IS REAL & is HAPPENING IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” tweeted Monáe, while Legend added, “These statehouses are waging all-out war on women and their right to control their reproductive decisions. This is awful.”
