Nipsey Hussle’s Sister Wins Custody of His Daughter

Nipsey Hussle’s daughter will continue to live with his sister.

On Monday (May 20), Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, and sister, Samantha Smith, were in court for a custody hearing with Tanisha Foster, the biological mother Nipsey’s daughter Emani. The 10-year-old has been living with Smith following the rapper’s death in March.

According to TMZ, Smith will retain custody the child for now. The hearing was sealed, but another date is scheduled for July.

Nipsey’s family believes Foster is unfit to care for her daughter. Prior to Nipsey’s death, Smith assisted in caring for Emani and wants “to ensure the continued stability for Emani and ensure that she will be able to maintain her current and ongoing relationship” with the rapper’s family.

Foster was clearly upset about the decision. “I’m pissed f,” she told a TMZ cameraman as she left the courthouse.

Her lawyer, Larry Lewellyn, says he is working with Nipsey’s family on a visitation schedule that will be in Emani’s best interest.

A warrant was recently issued for Foster’s arrest after she missed a court appearance over a 2017 DUI case. She also reportedly has a prior criminal record for arrests in 2006 and 2007.

During a guardianship hearing last week, Foster broke down in tears when she reunited with Emani for the first time in months. A judge cleared the courtroom for 20 minutes so that mother and daughter could spend time together.
