New Music: Ty Dolla $ign & Jeremih ‘The Light’

Let there be “Light.”

Ty Dolla $ign and Jeremih link up on their new collaboration “The Light,” the first release from their joint album MihTy. Over a sample Keni Burke’s ’80s hit “Risin’ to the Top,” which was later used by Mary J. Blige on “Love No Limit,” the R&B crooners kick game to their girls.

“Let’s have sex but not without the foreplay / But not without the first date,” sings Ty, while Jeremih borrows from Ahmad’s 1994 hit “Back in the Day”: “Back in the days when I was young I’m not a kid anymore, but these days I’m thinking maybe we should fuck again.”

MihTy is due this summer. “It’s nothing but smashes,” Ty told Zane Lowe. “We did it with me bro Hitmaka — he produced the whole shit — so it’s like a consistent album bangers. I promise you, we probably did like eight sessions, maybe less than that, and we got like 60 songs, and we had to choose like 13-14. So there’s leftovers from that project that we could probably give away to some the homies.”

Earlier this year, Hitmaka revealed that the project may feature Chris Brown and PARTYNEXTDOOR. “Twenty one songs greatness,” he told “The Joe Budden Podcast.” “Me and A1 produced every song on the record, along with our co-producers.”
