The New England Patriots are reportedly signing veteran wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, as they look to give Tom Brady some help in the absence retired All Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Thomas’ deal is for one-year, $6 million.

The Houston Texans had acquired Demaryius Thomas in a trade with the Denver Broncos last October, and he appeared in seven games for Houston before tearing his left Achilles in a Week 16 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Thomas, 31, was released by the Texans in February.

During his brief stint in Houston, he caught 23 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns. In his final eight games with the Broncos, Thomas had 36 receptions for 402 yards and three TDs.

The Patriots will once again enter a new NFL season as the defending Super Bowl champs, coming f their 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. New England has a total 12 picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, including six selections in the first three rounds.

The NFL has not yet released the full slate games for the 2019 season, but the league has announced that New England will host the Sunday Night game in Week 1. That said, their opponent has not yet been revealed.
