JoJo Addresses Fans and Critics on New Song ‘Joanna’

JoJo is coming.

The pop powerhouse pens an open letter to her fans and critics on her new song “Joanna,” which serves as an intro to her upcoming album. On the stripped-down R&B jam, which borrows its title from her real name Joanna Levesque, JoJo addresses her absence from music, her “underrated” career, and critics (“You peaked…You were supposed to be somebody”).

“What is going on, Joanna? What is going on, Joanna?” she sings.

The two-minute track ends with “Hurry and drop your new shit,” setting the stage for her new album, the follow-up to 2016’s Mad Love, due on Warner Records. “Wanted 2 get a few things f my chest b4 we fully dive into the newness,” wrote JoJo.

One year ago, she rented an Airbnb and started recording the personal album with some her “favorite creative friends.” “This was one the best times I’ve ever had,” she said. “I felt so supported and safe. Safe enough to get really brutally honest and address things I’ve seen and heard about myself for years and sometimes believed.”
