We’re only two weeks away from finally seeing what James Gunn’s vision of the DCU is when Superman: Legacy flies into theaters on July 11 and with that more speculation has grown as to who will take on the mantle of Wonder Woman and Batman as the Justice League is sure to be assembled at some point in the future.
While there’s still no word on which actor may take on the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, it seems like we may have an idea as to who will be wielding the Lasso of Truth in the DC Universe. Gunn hinted at the potential a specific actress would have as Wonder Woman.
According to Deadline, James Gunn may be looking towards casting True Detective actress Adria Arjona as his Amazonian superhero and truth be told, we’re not mad at the choice. With her current beau, Jason Momoa, already a part of the DCU as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl film, it might be an easy sell on Arjona to join the Justice League as she’ll surely cross paths with her boo on the silver screen in some crossover event in the years to come. On the flip side, if they break up, it may make things weird on the set. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Per Deadline:
“I follow Adria on Instagram but everybody came out [and said], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,’” Gunn said in an interview with Extra. “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
Gunn continued, “She was in a movie that I made seven years ago. We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.”
The news comes on the heels of fans debating on who’d they like to see take on the role going forward with names ranging from Ana De Armas to Melissa Barrera, but it seems like Arjona may be leading the pack in Gunn’s mind at the moment and we wouldn’t be disappointed if he went this route. Well, maybe Gal Gadot might not like it, but we surely wouldn’t mind.
