Hip Hop Album Sales: Future & Meek Mill Hit Billboard 200's Top 10

Hip Hop has dominated the Billboard 200 chart for the week ending July 12. Drake is still in the No. 1 spot with Scorpion, while Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys moves up a spot from last week to land at No. 2.

Elsewhere on the chart, Future makes his debut at No. 3 with his streaming-only mixtape Beastmode 2 and Meek Mill’s first project post-prison, the Legends Of The Summer EP, hits the chart at No. 9.

Meanwhile, projects from Cardi B, XXXTENTACION, Juice WRLD, Lil Baby, JAY-Z and Beyoncé (The Carters) all hold down the Top 10.

Nothing Can Stop Him

Despite a 54 percent drop in sales, Drake’s Scorpion still wears the proverbial Billboard 200 crown this week. With 335,328 total album equivalent units (29,254 in pure album sales and a streaming count 390,977,004), the Toronto powerhouse slides in the No. 1 slot with ease.

The monster release debuted at No. 1 last week and has already smashed multiple streaming records, including his own record for the most first-day streams on Apple Music and Spotify. Last week’s debut also marked the biggest sales debut 2018.

Beastmode Indeed

Future’s streaming-only mixtape, Beastmode 2, has just became the highest-charting project its kind on the Billboard 200. With 56,555 total album equivalent units sold and a streaming count 73,494,843, Hendrix lands at No. 3. The Top 3 chart position is an impressive feat considering the nine-track effort wasn’t released for purchase and none  the songs were available to buy through digital retailers.

His last two albums — Future and HNDRX — made history last year following their back-t0-back No. 1 debuts.

Meek Debuts

Meek Mill was released from Chester State Prison in April and just returned with his first music project post-prison, the Legends Of The Summer EP.  With 26,908 total album equivalent units sold (6,097 in pure album sales and a streaming count 25,295,714), Meek squeezes into the Top 10 at No. 9. It marks his first EP to break into the Top 10.

The Philly-bred rapper’s last studio album, 2017’s Wins & Losses, debuted at No. 3 with roughly 107,000 total album equivalent units and around 37,000 in pure album sales.
