Drake Becomes First Artist to Hit 1 Billion Streams in One Week

Drake is on a billion.

The rapper’s latest album Scorpion continues to break records. Now it becomes the first album to reach 1 billion streams globally across all streaming platforms in a single week, according to Billboard.

The 25 tracks on Scorpion earned more than 1 billion streams globally during the week release (June 29-July 5). Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys previously held the global record with just under 700 million streams (April 27-May 3).

Drake celebrated the historic milestone on Instagram. “New era. New platinum. Thank you a billion times over (a billion plus),” he wrote.

Additionally, Scorpion accumulated over 750 million U.S. streams in its first seven days. It broke the one-week record previously held by beerbongs & bentleys in just three days with 435 million U.S. streams.

These numbers will easily give Drake a No. 1 debut on next week’s Billboard 200 with over 700,000 equivalent album units, marking the biggest week for an album in 2018 so far.
