Celtics fan banned rest this season, and next, for racial slur directed at Cousins.
Earlier this week, DeMarcus Cousins recently joined Chris Haynes’ “Posted Up” podcast, where he detailed some the worst things that fans have shouted at him during his NBA career.
Among them, an incident at the TD Garden in Boston on January 26, when a Celtics fan reportedly called Cousins the n-word. The Warriors’ 28-year old center reportedly informed arena security immediately and the fan was promptly removed from the building.
According to Haynes, that fan only received a ban for the rest this season, as well as next year.
“During that game, there was a fan who muttered the n-word at DeMarcus Cousins,” Haynes reported. “I was told DeMarcus informed one the team security guys and they got a hold the security team there at TD Garden. They took care the fan, but I was told that ultimately that fan was banned for the rest this season and next year.”
The Utah Jazz have banned two fans from Vivent Smart Home Arena for life for two similar situations involving OKC Thunder All-Star, Russell Westbrook.
As seen in the video embedded below, Cousins explained to Haynes (H/T Yahoo Sports):
“Oh, I’ve been called n—-r. And it’s crazy because this has happened to me on a few occasions. I reported it to the league, and, you know, I may have said whatever I said back and I was still punished for it. But obviously it became a bigger issue when it was Russ Westbrook], and he was still fined for it. I don’t really understand it. We’re the product. We push this league, so I don’t understand. When does our safety, when does it become important?”
