A$AP Rocky to Remain in Swedish Jail

A$AP Rocky will remain in a Swedish jail for now.

On Friday (July 19), a court in Stockholm approved a request from prosecutors to hold the rapper in detention for six more days while an assault investigation continues. He is being held on the grounds that he is a flight risk.

According to TMZ, Congressman Adriano Espaillat says Swedish authorities are using “KGB tactics” by keeping Rocky in jail and he feels that they are going to indict him.

On July 5, Rocky and two other men were detained over their alleged involvement in a street brawl. The 30-year-old rapper is accused assaulting a man in Stockholm on June 30 while he was in town for a tour. Despite footage showing him attacking the man, Rocky said he acted in self-defense. He posted his own video on Instagram, telling the two men to stop harassing and following him.

“We don’t want no problems with these boys. They keep following us,” Rocky says in the video.

He has received support from Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who lobbied the White House for his release. President Trump is reportedly aware Rocky’s situation and has his team working to get him freed.

More than 600,000 people, including Justin Bieber and Diddy, have signed a Change.org petition demanding his release, while others including Tyler, the Creator and ScHoolboy Q have said they would never perform in Sweden again.

Another hearing will be held on July 25 to determine whether he will be detained further.

UPDATE: After receiving a call from Kanye West, President Trump says he plans to speak with the Swedish prime minister about A$AP Rocky’s incarceration, and hopes for a quick resolution.

“Just spoke to @KanyeWest about his friend A$AP Rocky’s incarceration,” tweeted Trump. “I will be calling the very talented Prime Minister Sweden to see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky. So many people would like to see this quickly resolved!”
