A Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT sold for $115 recently, far less than the $350,000 estimated worth.
Data from web3 marketplace OpenSea shows the owner of BAYC NFT #835 accepted a bid of 115 DAI ($115) for the NFT. DAI is a stablecoin built on the Ethereum blockchain. The bid is 99.9% lower than the current floor price for the NFT collection. The same owner also sold Mutant Ape #11670 for 25 DAI ($25) to the same buyer.
The situation is likely a mistake in which the original owner confused DAI with ETH. DAI is a stablecoin that is pegged to the US Dollar, so 1 DAI ~ 1 USD. Meanwhile, the price of a single ETH fluctuates wildly from day to day and currently sits above $3,000 per 1 ETH. If the BAYC NFT had sold for its equivalent price in ETH, the owner would have sold it for around $394,000 – much more in line with current floor prices.
The sale price of $115 is a major loss for the Bored Ape NFT owner; it was originally acquired for 16 ETH in August 2021.
Meanwhile, Madonna has joined the long list of celebrities who have a BAYC NFT in their collection. The legendary pop diva announced her acquisition via Twitter. Her profile picture is now her acquired Bored Ape, which she paid 180 ETH to acquire. That’s around $571,206 at the time of writing.

Universal Music has also bought into the hype surrounding the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection. Last week, Digital Music News reported on UMG acquiring a Bored Ape to serve as manager for its all-digital band KINGSHIP. The NFT was sold on February 12 to 10:22PM Founder Celine Joshua on the OpenSea marketplace for 125 ETH ($364,792). The previous owner of the NFT purchased it in June for around 2.04 ETH.
