The Weeknd teases a second trailer for ‘The Idol’ in Las Vegas.

Last night at his concert in Las Vegas, The Weeknd debuted a second trailer for his HBO series, The Idol, in which he stars opposite Lily-Rose Depp. The music industry drama series dives into the darker world of pop music and all that goes with it, co-created by Euphoria showrunner Sam Levinson.

The series follows a female pop singer who begins a romance with an enigmatic club owner and cult leader. The Weeknd stars alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Jennie from Blackpink, Hank Azaria, and many more. The series is said to have undergone a creative overhaul back in April, after the departure of Amy Seimetz from the project.

Character details have been kept close to the vest, and the released trailer is more of a teaser as it sets a mood and tone but reveals very little in terms of plot details. The teaser features many quick-cut flashes, including lots of skin and implied debauchery not uncommon in an HBO drama series.

“That’s sex,” a character says with eyes glued to her smartphone screen. “That’s what we’re selling.”

Other actors involved in the project include Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennot, Hari Nef, Da-Vine Joy Randolph, and Mike Dean. Joe Epstein will be a showrunner and writer alongside Sam Levinson, Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd), and Reza Fahim.

At the same time, Levinson, Tesfaye, Fahim, Epstein, Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turen, and Aaron L Gilbert executive produce. Co-executive producing and writing will be Mary Laws (Succession, Preacher), while The Weeknd’s manager Wassim Slaiby and creative director La Mar C Taylor co-executive produce.

Last month, the Weeknd’s “After Hours Til Dawn” Tour was postponed due to a nationwide outage of one of Canada’s most extensive phone networks, Rogers Wireless. The Rogers Wireless outage prevented the artist’s tour’s opening show, set to take place in Toronto’s aptly named Rogers Centre, due to the cashless venue’s Rogers Wireless-based payment processing.
