Ravinia Festival Cancels Multiple Shows Following Chicago Mass Shooting

Chicago’s Ravinia Festival has cancelled several upcoming shows following the mass shooting.

“In light of Monday’s tragedy, and out of deep respect for our community, Ravinia announces the cancellation or postponement of all concerts and events through Sunday, July 10,” the organization said in a statement.

“The decision was made after careful consideration and in close consulation with many stakeholders, including neighbors, public officials, artists, and patrons,” the statement continues. “Our shared hope is that the reduced activity – both within the park and in the neighborhoods surrounding Ravinia – will give the community the space and quiet to reflect and heal.”

Ravinia Festival Events – Cancelled Through July 10

  • Sheryl Crow with Keb ‘Mo’ & Southern Avenue – July 7*
  • Piano & String Chamber Works – July 8
  • John Fogerty with Hearty Har – July 8
  • Piano & Strings Chamber Works – July 9
  • Michael Franti & Spearhead with Arrested Development – July 9
  • The Summit of Strings and Peak Piano: Jaako Kuusisto Music and More – July 10
  • Lyle Lovett & His Large Band and Chris Isaak – July 10

Only the July 7 Sheryl Crow performance has been postponed to another date. The rest of the Ravinia Festival dates through July 10 are cancelled entirely. Ravinia Festival will resume on July 11 with Piano & Strings Chamber Works and a July 12 gig featuring the Black Crowes.

Those with tickets to any of the events that were impacted by this decision will receive a refund by August 1. “Ravinia stands in loving support of our Highland Park community,” the statement concludes. “We wish comfort and peace to the victims, their families, and all those affected, and look forward to gathering together again soon.”

The mass shooting happened during a July 4 parade celebration. a 21 year old male disguised himself in women’s clothing and hid on a nearby rooftop, opening fire on the people below him. He killed seven people and wounded 30 more as the community gathered to celebrate the nation’s birthday. The man was taken into custody later that night after fleeing the scene.
