StubHub has revealed a 25% increase in ticket sales compared to the 2019 summer concert season. The ticket resale platform says the growth is due to nearly double the amount of events this year compared to the same period in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic set in.
“This may be the busiest concert season on record, with more than double the events on StubHub than we saw in 2019,” said Adam Budelli for StubHub. “This packed line-up of tours is already driving 25% more demand than the 2019 season, driven by the prominence of once-in-a-lifetime concerts.”
He continued, “From Rage Against The Machine’s reunion to Elton John’s farewell, we’re seeing the impact of concert-goers who are excited that bucket-list bands are hitting the road again and eager to witness what may be a legacy act’s final tour.”
Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard is StubHub’s top-selling tour of the summer, ranking nearly three times higher in total sales than the second highest-selling artist, Kenny Chesney. Their tour is the most anticipated concert in Los Angeles, Nashville, and Chicago, while the latter is the highest-selling show of the summer for StubHub.
Kenny Chesney is the highest-selling country act, with nearly 40% more sales than his previous tour in 2018. Morgan Wallen, the third most in-demand artist of the summer, boasts the most affordable ticket prices of the top ten list, at $175.
Sir Paul McCartney ties with Billy Joel for the fewest number of concerts, and the former’s tickets sell for the highest price at $349. Justin Bieber tickets have an average price of $327, and he is StubHub’s most in-demand pop star, with 12 US shows this summer.
Lady Gaga is the number two pop act and has the most ticket sales of any female artist, with Alicia Keys following her with the second-most sales. As they rise in popularity, Mitski and Charli XCX are seeing some of the biggest jumps in sales per show since 2019.
Rising country star Luke Combs is seeing the most demand per show of any artist, with only two shows in his US tour and massive ticket sales. He is number four of the highest-selling country acts.
