Six years after its debut, Paris-based livestream channel and record label ChilledCow has officially rebranded as “LoFi Girl.”
ChilledCow recently unveiled the name change on Twitter, after teasing the pivot in a series of messages earlier this month. The livestream mainstay has already updated its social-media handles, Spotify profile, web address, and YouTube account to reflect the transition to LoFi Girl, or the central figure in its relaxation-minded videos.
“Today marks an important day for the channel – it is the 6th anniversary, and I wanted to take this occasion to announce that the channel’s name is changing to LoFi Girl,” ChilledCow’s creator, Dimitri, told the channel’s nearly 60,000 Twitter followers.
“This was a very tough decision to make,” continued Dimitri, “but the driving force behind it is the fact that ChilledCow’s name was chosen many years ago, and is no longer reflective of what the channel is about anymore.
“Over the years, we’ve built up an amazing community together around the iconic LoFi Girl character, and I’m more than grateful. It’s truly heartwarming to see how involved you all are. Thus, I’d also like to take this occasion to personally thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support; it’s been an unforgettable journey, and it means the world to the artists and I,” proceeded the message, capping the latter sentence off with a heart emoji.
From there, LoFi Girl, which boasts almost 8,000,000 YouTube subscribers and has generated a staggering 840.96 million views to date, emphasized that the title alteration wouldn’t impact the channel’s content.
“Don’t worry, this change won’t affect in any way the content on the channel but will instead pave the way for many exciting projects for you all in the future! This channel has been and always will be about music, art and positivity only[.] Thank you again for everything. PS: I apologize for spooking some of you during this rebranding event.”
Of note on the monetization front is that the aforementioned 840.96 million YouTube plays have made LoFi Girl approximately $580,000, factoring based upon the Google-owned platform’s reported per-play compensation rate.
And while LoFi Girl exists on Spotify simply as a profile (with five public playlists and almost three-quarters of a million followers), the channel/record label has rolled out multiple limited-edition vinyl-record campaigns. Plus, a limited-edition “Sleepy LoFi Girl” figurine was being advertised on one of the channel’s streams at the time of this piece’s publishing. The 2.5-inch-tall product costs $29.99.
