Metallica is following in the footsteps Bon Jovi by inviting local bands to open for them during five stadium stops on their WorldWide tour this summer. Special guests Avenged Sevenfold and openers Volbeat and Gojira have been tapped as openers, but there are five cities where only one opener is booked. That leaves room for one more, so Metallica has launched the Hit The Stage contest that gives one lucky unsigned band a chance to open for them on five dates.
The band is enlisting fans to help pick a band through local radio stations. The group receiving the most fan votes will hit the stage on their own five city tour including May 19th in Foxborough, MA; June 4th in St. Louis, MO; June 14th in San Antonio, TX; June 16th in Dallas, TX and June 18th in Chicago, IL.
However, as some fans have noticed, there are five cities where only one band from the bill is able to join. Since Metallica have had so much fun checking out local bands that fans voted for to open the shows in other parts the world (Central/South America, Copenhagen and Mexico City), it only seems natural to invite fans to once again voice their opinion and help choose a band. This time around, the group receiving the most fan votes will hit the stage first on their own five-city tour!
Metallica fans will have the opportunity to vote in two phases. Fans should visit the websites for radio stations: KEGL/Dallas, WLUP/Chicago, KISS/San Antonio and KPNT/St. Louis.
All the votes will be tabulated by the stations and two finalists from each contest will go head to head for votes in phase two on Metallica.com starting next week on April 14th. Ten days later, the band with the most votes will be announced and can start packing their bags to head to their first gig in Foxborough at Gillette Stadium, courtesy Metallica.
