J. Cole Breaks Apple Music & Spotify Streaming Records

J. Cole’s KOD is knocking records out the box. The Fayetteville rapper’s newest LP shattered Apple Music and Spotify’s 24-hour streaming records, according to new reports.

KOD was streamed 64.5 million times in its first 24 hours on Apple Music. Meanwhile, it surpassed 36.6 million streams on Spotify. This was enough to shatter both service’s 24-hour streaming records, as per Billboard and Spotify.

More artists are breaking records as streaming becomes more popular. In 2016, for example, when Drake dropped the previous record holder Views, Apple Music had 13 million paying subscribers. Now, the service boasts 71 million paying users.

As previously reported, “KOD,” the album’s title track, also broke Spotify’s opening day record for streams in the U.S. The cut earned 4.2 million streams in 24 hours, beating out Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.”

KOD, which stands for Kids on Drugs, King Overdosed, and Kill Our Demons, dropped on Friday (April 20). It’s also expected to top the Billboard 200 in its opening week.
