Sony/ATV Music Publishing has promoted Dan Nelson to senior vice president the company’s international division, overseeing business operations outside the United States and U.K., including initiatives in continental Europe, South East Asia, Russia and more. He will also stay on as a member Sony/ATV’s digital team in those markets.
Nelson has been with Sony/ATV since April 2007, starting as their international finance director, and has been involved in its major international acquisitions, including that EMI Music Publishing in 2012.
“Not only does Sony/ATV benefit from Dan’s wide industry experience but also from his smart, astute and practical approach to our business operations,” president international business Guy Henderson said in a statement. “Dan and the strong team he has assembled have made a major contribution to Sony/ATV’s growth to its position as the world’s leading music publisher.”
— Live Nation Entertainment tapped marketing executive Chris Loll to be chief operating ficer media and sponsorships, a newly-created position within the company. The NYC-based Loll will report to Russell Wallach, Live Nation's global president, as he leads the company’s business operations and executes multi-year plans for the company’s growth.
— Universal Music U.K. appointed Stefan Demetriou to managing director its creative and commercial partnerships division, Globe Productions. Demetriou enters as the Grammy-winning team celebrates its fifth anniversary and focuses its efforts on in-house video production and ‘visual A&R’ content. He previously served at film development program Inside Pictures and has been at the helm several music-driven features, including longform video projects with Coldplay and Ed Sheeran.
— Goldenvoice announced three internal promotions within its Los Angeles venue operations. Jennifer Yacoubian gets upped to talent buyer for the 6,300-seat Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall, moving up from that same position at the El Rey Theatre. Assuming her place at the El Rey is Jennifer Liu, moving from her talent-buying role at the Roxy Theatre. Mapi Moran, former marketing manager Goldenvoice’s venue shows, has become director festival marketing. The properties under Moran’s supervision now include Coachella, Stagecoach and the Hangout Music Fest.
— Ty Roberts exited as CTO Universal Music Group this week after a little more than a year on the job. The Silicon Valley veteran had joined the company after serving as chief strategy ficer for Gracenote. UMG declined to comment on Roberts' leaving or his potential successor.
— Los Angeles-based music licensing startup Songtradr hired music sync industry veteran Steve Celi as vp creative services. Celi has more than 20 years experience in music and TV, a majority which has been spent overseeing music for primetime shows at Fox, including American Idol, X Factor, Glee and Empire. He heads to Songtradr to spearhead the company’s custom music production efforts.
