Exclusive: Birdman Talks Drake, Cash Money, & Label ‘Tug-of-War’

Birdman has a lot going on. Recently, the Cash Money mogul told Rap-Up that he’s proud Nicki Minaj and that he has few joint projects in the works. Now, in the latest installment from the conversation, Baby shows love to Drake, who earned his eighth No. 1 album with Scorpion.

“He got so many songs. He a workaholic,” said the YMCMB boss. “Drake kept this shit alive for the last four-five years consistently. Nicki do her thing also, but he’s been the most consistent Young Money/Cash Money artist.”

Birdman went on to say that Drake manifested this type success with hard work. “He talked about this shit and turned it into reality,” he added. “He never lived life like he’s living it. He comes from the trap, from the slums, and he ain’t ever had a sweet life. Now, he’s making a hell a life for himself. I have to say that he’s on a high horse to be living life like this.”

Drake might be the crew’s most consistent artist, according to Birdman, but the entire team continues to make waves in the music world. “We’re a monster in a race by ourselves,” added Birdman. “I don’t see no one living that’s gonna be able to accomplish what we accomplished. The person that might could do what we’re doing ain’t living yet because my peers ain’t gonna do it. They ain’t built for that. Numbers don’t lie. This shit facts.”

Up next, the Cash Money boss will release the second installment his Cash Money documentary, following Before Anythang. This one will focus on the Hot Boy era, or as he likes to call it, “the bling-bling dynasty.” It will come to a close with Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III. A third installment will follow at some point in the future.

“Part 3 is our life after Tha Carter III up until all the confusion, and tug–war going on right now,” he explained. “It’s still writing itself. I haven’t started on Part 3 but I already have Part 2 done.”
