Escobar Season Begins: Nas' "Nasir" Album Draws Adulation & Criticism

Queensbridge, NY – Nas’ new album, Nasir, is upon us. To mark the occasion, the Queens legend held a waterfront listening party for the project on Thursday night (June 14) in Queensbridge, New York.

Hosted by Mass Appeal, which is co-owned by the Illmatic mastermind, the event was scheduled to be livestreamed at 9 p.m. EST on the imprint’s YouTube channel but it stopped working right as it was supposed to begin.

After a shaky start, Nasir finally started playing, but it was riddled with technical difficulties.

Nonetheless, Nasir has finally arrived. Featuring seven tracks and Kanye West in the role executive producer, Nas’ 11th studio album is already getting rave reviews on Twitter. The word “classic” is getting thrown around like free drinks at a wedding.

Several Twitter users were impressed by the Slick Rick and Richard Pryor samples on “Cops” and praised ‘Ye’s production skills.

However, not everyone was feeling Nasir. In light recent interview Nas’ ex-wife Kelis did with Hollywood Unlocked, many people criticized Nas and those supporting him.

During the interview, the “Milkshake” singer accused Nas being a physically abusive alcoholic during their marriage. The two are currently embroiled in a contentious custody battle over their 8-year-old son Knight.
