Dover, DE – Eminem isn’t backing down following criticism for his use a “gunshot sound effect” at the 2018 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
Slim Shady used the pyrotechnic concussion once again during his performance at the 2018 Firefly Music Festival on Saturday (June 16). But this time around, he had a warning message for fans.
“If you are easily frightened by loud noises or fended by explicit lyrics, you shouldn’t be here,” the message reads.
Eminem was criticized on social media last week for using the pyrotechnic concussion at the Bonnaroo Festival. Some attendees said they were scared by the “gunshot sound” due to the regularity mass shootings in the U.S.
Paul Rosenberg, the longtime manager Eminem, later responded to the controversy by clarifying what the noise was and noted its frequent use in Slim Shady’s live shows.
“Contrary to inaccurate reports, @Eminem does not use gunshot sound effects during his live show,” Rosenberg wrote on Instagram. “The effect used by Eminem in his set at @bonnaroo was a pyrotechnic concussion which creates a loud boom. He has used this effect — as have hundreds other artists — in his live show for over 10 years, including previous US festival dates in 2018 without complaint.”
Eminem has seemingly been unphased by it all, even having some fun with another polarizing part his performances ahead the Firefly Festival gig.
In an Instagram post shared on Saturday, the rap superstar joked about performing his entire set in the accents that frustrate some his listeners.
