Chance the Rapper Readies Albums with Kanye West and Childish Gambino

After producing albums for Pusha-T, Kid Cudi, Nas, and Teyana Taylor, Kanye West is now teaming up with Chance the Rapper for a collaborative project.

During the season finale Complex’s “Open Late with Peter Rosenberg,” Lil Chano revealed that he is recording a seven-track project with his mentor, which had previously been hinted at by Francis & The Lights. “I’m gonna do a seven track with Ye,” said Chance. “I’m supposed to be working on it in July.”

After being in the studio with Kanye, he’s learned to multi-task. “What’s cool is Ye’s kind got me in a mode understanding, just, your ability to multi-task and work on different things.”

One those things includes a collaborative album with Donald Glover. “I’ve been actively like working on the project with Childish Gambino],” shared Chance. “Kanye is my favorite rapper that I followed without knowing for a long time, and Donald Glover was the first rapper who was like, ‘Come on tour’ with me, I like your shit’ — that no one’s ever heard , my 10 Day shit. ‘I want you to come out on the road with me.’ Those are dudes that, like, are like, I wanna do everything. I wanna work on as many things as possible.”

He and Glover already have six songs recorded. “We got six songs, that’re all fire. But I think the album’s gonna be more than, like, more than 14 songs. I think it’s gonna be, like, a full thing.”

He revealed that he is “at least 30 percent” done with both projects, but didn’t give release dates.

When asked if he will sell his next album, Chance says he is still undecided. “I used to be. But now I’m kinda like, I wanna get on my mixtape shit — just be, like, on some Mixtape Wayne shit. ‘Cause, like, I got the best mixtape batting average — out anybody,” he said, adding, “I wanna make music, and I want as many people to hear it as possible. But, like, how do you do that, how do you function when everybody’s tied up to one the three majors? I could just keep dropping shit on SoundCloud, but that shit’s kinda wack, yo.”

Kanye recently revealed that he wants to set up shop in Wyoming and make 52 records in 52 weeks. “He said he wants to get a place in Wyoming and he thinks he wants to spend more time there,” said New York Times writer Jon Caramanica during his “Popcast.” “He told me at one point he wants to make 52 records in 52 weeks. Take that for what you will.”
