Chicago's drill music scene has quieted down since the beginning this decade, yet the Windy City has continued to churn out an array talent with varying styles. Famous Dex is part this next wave, spending the past few years building a foundation and carving a niche for himself that has led to sustained success, continuous growth and a rising prile.
Catching the public's attention in 2015 with his debut mixtape Never Seen It Coming, Famous Dex built on that momentum with a succession mixtapes before inking a deal with Rich the Kid's Rich Forever imprint the following year. Since, Famous Dex has gradually raised anticipation for his long-awaited debut album solo mixtapes and collaborative projects with his Rich Forever label mates.
Dex's debut album Dex Meets Dexter seeks to take the Chicago native's career to the next level. Led by the A$AP Rocky-assisted single "Pick It Up," the album showcases Famous Dex's versatility, occasionally straying from trap musings and showing his romantic and introspective side over the course the album's 14 tracks. Aside from Rocky, Diplo, Wiz Khalifa, and Drax Project make appearances, while Calvin Harris, Diplo, FKi 1st, Forza, J Gramm, Pi'erre Bourne and Ronny J provide the album's production flair.
Famous Dex explained the Dex Meets Dexter title in an interview with Angie Newness. "It’s two people: Dex is the—is the good guy. Dex is the ‘Japan’ guy. Dexter’s the one take his clothes f at the shows. I just wanna show my fans like, "Look, this what it is. This is] Dex, and you is meeting this crazy boy Dexter."
